Colour Blocking Pots and Planters

Colour Blocking

Colour is the most effective communication and design tool we possess.
Think of the humble traffic light. Show those three colours, out of context, to anyone on the planet, and they'll tell you what each means.

Likewise, it's easy to quickly attribute a mood, or memory, to almost any colour.

It would be shocking to think of certain spaces painted in particular colours. A baby's nursery with black walls? Tomato Red Yoga Studio? Hot pink funeral parlour? Colour has an impact on us.

And, if making an impact is on your list.
Colour blocking is the way to go.

Sets are the answer! Multiple sizes of pots, planters, bowls and urns in striking colours and tonal hues.

Yellow

"The psychology of the colour yellow tells us that the colour has traditionally been a symbol of joyfulness, happiness, and energy; and is associated with summer months." Yellow is quite literally sunshine and warm days. When selecting yellow pots for your verandah, or balcony, it looks best contrasted against charcoal or "black" exterior paint, like Domino by Dulux.

Blue

"The colour blue represents both the sky and the sea and is associated with open spaces, freedom, intuition, imagination, inspiration, and sensitivity. Blue also represents depth, trust, loyalty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence, stability, faith, and intelligence." There's a reason we all love blue, but take a look around the garden and blue hues are few and far between! Load with white flower varieties and keep the Santorini vibes alive.

Colour Blocking Red Page 4

Red

In Western society red symbolizes passion, desire, love and lust. In China, "red is auspicious—associated with life-generating energy (the sun, blood, and fire)—and is the colour of celebrations and prosperity."

Using a red colour palette is not to be taken lightly, but if you do you will be rewarded with an energy-rich space that will embolden any area and radiate warmth.

Black

Black symbolises "elegance, wealth, restraint, and power". The chic-est colour on the spectrum and in many ways, the most architectural. If a statement is what you're after, black is your go-to. Deep green foliage and glossy leaves make hues of noir properly pop.

Orange

"Orange creates feelings of freshness, excitement and warmth. It's connected to nature and changing seasons."

Reframing "orange" into "terracotta" is the easiest way to approach this zesty tone. Planting peach or beige-coloured flowers in tang-tinted pots is a fresh way to present l'orange in all it's glory!
